Mikel Arteta's side have managed three wins and one draw from their opening four games of the Premier League season, making a decent start toward another title push. The Spaniard will have to try to get his side performing at the best of their ability, given their difficulties in Merseyside over recent years. Last time out, Arsenal fell to a 1-0 defeat at the home of the Toffees in Sean Dyche's first game in charge, with a James Tarkowski header from a set-piece proving to be the deciding factor.
This is an opportunity to get some points on the comparisons board and a three-point swing from the previous campaign. Yet there’s plenty of narrative on offer thanks to this week’s events. Arsenal struggled with the new manager bounce as it’s called last season when Sean Dyche came in and managed to secure a pivotal 1-0 win in the race for survival. This year the Gunners arrive off the back of a Toffees takeover with 777 Partners securing a majority stake from Farhad Moshiri who himself has his former links to north London. Will there be a new owner bounce for the home side this time? Or will Arsenal finally get a much-needed win over something of that has become a bogey side for them in the league? Tom Canton will be bringing all the build-up, match commentary and reaction in today’s football.
While Everton have only grabbed one point so far, they will be hopeful of a first win of the league campaign. Arsenal face a dilemma over their goalkeeping options (Photo by Stuart MacFarlane/Arsenal FC via Getty Images)12:59Tom CantonWhen can Arsenal rest Bukayo Saka? Bukayo Saka is arguably the most undroppable figure in the Arsenal team and is the current record holder for the club regarding consecutive Premier League starts. He overtook Paul Merson in the 2-2 draw with Fulham which was his 83 start for the side in a row and took that one further in the 3-1 win over Manchester United.
There couldn't be too many better opponents to test that out against than Everton. The Toffees have made an awful start to the campaign and Arsenal will be heavy favourites. Still, though, they cannot go into the match feeling too confident having failed to win at Goodison Park in six years. As a result, it's vital that Arteta gets his team selection spot on. Here football. london takes a look at who he might pick.
But the Brazilian international has since returned to action, scoring off the bench during the dramatic 3-1 victory over Manchester United earlier this month. Ahead of his side's trip to Goodison Park, Gunners manager Arteta has made it no secret of his admiration for Jesus, claiming the talented striker has been a difference-maker since completing his move from Manchester City a little over 12 months ago. "He changed our world last season, " the Spaniard said when asked about Jesus. "He brought a different energy, a different belief, a different threat, a different fear to opponents. The Gunners have dropped just two points and headed into the international break with a dramatic late win over Manchester United. Still though there is a feeling that more is to come. While Mikel Arteta's side started last season like a house on fire, this time around there have only been brief embers. Arteta may well view this as a positive in the sense that his team have many more gears to go to, but he'll be hoping that improvements are on the horizon soon.

(Photo by Stuart MacFarlane/Arsenal FC via Getty Images)13:16Tom CantonRamsdale or Raya? Arsenal appear to have dropped a hint over which goalkeeper will be starting their clash with Everton on Sunday, amid a contest between Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya for the number one shirt. The Gunners make the trip to Goodison Park as they hope to make an ideal return from the international break.
The Gunners boss hasn't been shy with regard to experiments so far this season. Gabriel Magalhaes, an ever-present in the Premier League last term, was only a substitute for wins over Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace before returning to the starting line-up against Manchester United before the international break. Taking into account that the Toffees pose a massive threat from set pieces, in particular, is it safe to assume the Brazil international will retain his place in central defence? That is one of several dilemmas facing Arteta as the likes of Fabio Vieira, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Gabriel Jesus will be pushing for starts too. Read who Kaya and Tashan want to see start here.
london live blog. 15:13Tom CantonShould Havertz be dropped? Mikel Arteta has been urged to drop Kai Havertz from his starting XI with an obvious replacement being suggested to the Arsenal boss. Since his £65million move in the summer from Chelsea, the Germany international has started all four Premier League games with his performances receiving mixed reviews. The narrow 1-0 win victory against Crystal Palace was comfortably Havertz's best display for the Gunners, with his defensive work rate and game management skills extremely useful to Arteta's side following the red card given to Takehiro Tomiyasu. However, his displays against Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Manchester United have left a lot to be desired in the eyes of some. Bright cameo appearances from Fabio Vieira have also not helped his case with many demanding the Portugal international be given a chance from the off.
Everton vs Arsenal LIVE: Kick-off time, team news and match analysisIt was almost unfair to take Premier League football away so soon after Arsenal’s dramatic win against Manchester United. However, they return to action this weekend to face an Everton side who are unbeaten at home against the Gunners since 2017. Mikel Arteta is all too familiar with his opponents having played with the Toffees in his playing career but is yet to land a win on his old stomping ground. Arsenal know that a win here and in the North London Derby will set them up with a better points total than their first six games of last season.

Mikel Arteta has faced the press ahead of the trip to Merseyside to provide the latest on his squad. Bukayo Saka is reportedly nursing a nagging Achilles injury. (Image: Stuart MacFarlane/Arsenal FC via Getty Images)13:45Tom CantonDream Arsenal line-up vs EvertonThe Premier League has mercifully returned to action and Arsenal take on Everton at Goodison Park where the Toffees have shown anything but mercy in their last five outings in this fixture. Mikel Arteta faces the reality of not having won since 2017 in the blue half of Merseyside and he will want to strategize the perfect way to overcome the Sean Dyche problem he faces. It is so odd to think that the same team that lost 1-0 to Everton went on to win 4-0 at the Emirates and perhaps showcased how much of this fixture could be played off the field and instead resting in the players' minds. With that in mind, Arteta’s team should draw on its most dependable players. Therefore, with Kai Havertz suffering so badly from a run of poor form and lack of confidence, this is surely a game to bring in a calm head. For the midfield and in place of the German international I would go with Jorginho.
